The Guava Girl Podcast 22: Creating a Highly Profitable Facebook Group (And Networking Inside Groups)

We are talking about how having a Facebook group can be a huge game changer for your business and/or personal brand and how to successfully use your FB groups to network! Having a Facebook group is probably one of the best decisions I’ve ever made for my business. Creating a FB Group can seem easy.. but you need to put in the WORK to help it grow! We’ll go through the highs and lows of what it took to get my facebook group to where it is today!

“Having Facebook is so so powerful because people spend their time differently on Facebook than they do on Instagram. People are there to engage!”

On Instagram, people are there to get what they need and leave, like keeping up with their favorite people, seeing pretty pictures and then they’re done.

Whereas, Facebook, they’re already conditioned to write a little bit more, watch videos, using their laptop where they’re doing multiple things at one time, and etc.

There is tons of networking and self-promotion is completely allowed in my Facebook group, and I think that it is just so valuable, so I encourage you to join!

1. You need to know is that It takes time.  It takes actions to grow your FB group, especially in the early stages. It is okay; it takes time to get your good amount of members in there.

But first things first that is really important when you’re setting up your facebook group use specific buzzwords and tag on your name! You can tell right away that it is my group and that it ties in my personal brand. And you really want to use buzzwords that relate to you, your brand and business. You really want to make sure that what you’re naming your FB group is very clear and direct to what your group is going to be about. You’re working towards having a good retention rate in so you want it to be clear and direct so that they aren’t confused and just leave as soon as they get in!

The way that the algorithm works with Facebook is it’s all about activity. With both Instagram and Facebook if your posts get a lot of activity within the first few minutes of the post, then you are going to have a better performance and more activity down the road on that post.

So for example, If I have seven people who want to join my facebook group, I add those members and then facebook picks up that there is interest surrounding my group so then Facebook will recommend my group to more people.

2. Getting your members to post in your group. The more you guys post in my group with introductions and pitches, means the more activity in my group, which means my group will be more likely to be posted in the suggested groups for other people because Facebook recognizes the high activity!

3. Ask member questions: When you add members into their group and ask for their email and let them know that you are going to take their email

This is how I’ve been able to grow my email list the largest, as well as offering freebies, what I post on Pinterest and what I post in other FB groups. When people request to join my group you should always use the questions portion to your advantage by sayings things like (“Be sure to follow @isabella.guava on Instagram, What’s your email?, Do you promise to abide by the guidelines of this group and introduce yourself?!) People who don’t answer the questions don’t get inside my group!

I allow others to pitch themselves in the group so that they can get practice and have a great space to find and give opportunity and that also means that I get to pitch myself too! So I’ll offer Free Coaching Fridays and promote my other products and services in the group. It’s like a free for all kind of group, and it’s such a great empowering group for everyone to be apart of.

BUT, I don’t answer questions about the hashtag matrix, I really encourage people who have questions about their blog or posts in the group, and someone who already has the hashtag matrix will answer them because I’ve worked really hard to create a very safe space in this group.

My goal is to have over 3,000 FB group members by March 1st, so I am determined to get there!

I will say, it definitely took a long time to get to where the group is today, I have 820 members in the FB group right now, and it. took. time. girl.

The Biggest Hack Ever:  Right before I am about to launch a program, I will talk about my FB group on my IG stories. I’ll say “Hey guys! You should go join my FB group; you’re allowed to pitch yourselves!” I’ll explain what the group is for and I’ll post a poll asking if they want to join, then I tell my audience that, “I’ll send you a link in DM’s and everyone who votes yes I would send them a message, and say “Hey girl, I don’t know why the FB group link isn’t working but just type in “Instagrowth & Sales by Isabella Silverio and you’ll find it, I’ll see you in there!! SO, the reason why I do this is because if I just gave a link or a swipe up, Facebook makes it go to an alternate log in page and it takes away from the activity of someone searching and adding themselves to my group, so I’ll get more people joining the group because facebook is noticing the activity!

You have to be the facilitator of your group; if you want a lot of activity in your group then you have to be the sole proprietor in your group, constantly posting about you, your podcasts, emails, everything! You really want to avoid the graveyard syndrome, so you really need to put systems in place and set it up on your calendar so that you have a clear activity calendar for you FB group to stay consistent!

4. You should be networking in your FB Group. You want to write up three different posts, introduction (and add a photo of yourself), answer questions in a group (you can search keywords for things you specialize in and answer questions surrounding that) and you can also write up another post that pitches your program or doing market research. You can also make a list of 5-10 FB groups that you’ll consistently be active in, and you can also post different freebies in different groups to get email captures and encourage people to sign up for your program!

So, really what I’m trying to say here is the opportunities are truly endless when it comes to Facebook because you can just do so much with it!
